So, just wondering, why does everyone hate Honda?
Let me just start out with an argument from my brother.
One of my dad's client brought in a 1992 Honda and I was just checking it out. It was really clean and I told my brother I liked it. He then proceeded to say it's crap and it makes no sense for me to like Honda. Now, I respect his opinion, but he also said his Camaro was a fun car and that I should like that. I do like his Camaro, but yet I don't.
We kept going back and forth and I just eventually walked away since I had to stream my professor online and ended the argument. I'm not trying to say, "All hail Honda, supreme ruler of cars!" What I am trying to say is they need SOME credit. Sure, they lack in areas here and there, but also produce some strengths.
I know they aren't the greatest cars on Earth and have attracted some really stupid customization. I still like them though and I respect other people's opinions and other car brands. Still, why the hate on Honda?

Exactly my point. I tried to tell my brother that, but he is the kind of GM guy who states that it's either GM or crap.

Honda gained my respect a long time ago.
Their cars aren't nearly as beige as Toyotas. And their engines are built like tanks.

There are those people who like a certain type of car, and cannot be presented with any form or amount of evidence to prove that the car they like isn't perfect, or that any other car isn't crap. Ignore him. He's actively uninformed.

Probably from all the riced out and stanced ones that are out there. for every tastefully modded civic there about 200 riced out fart can equipped rolling junk heaps. I used to not like Honda because of all the riced out ones but now I love catching one that you can tell someone has put some serious time and effort into them.

Well, i have to say that while honda is great, they lost their uniqueness a long while ago.
In the old days we have the Prelude, the integra, the NSX, etc. Even the Civic of old days is awesome.
Now see current honda line-up, and what sort of honda that you want?
For me it's currently none.

I +1 that. It sucks that riced out Hondas make the brand have a bad image. Mine is stock, except for some stickers here and there and a sound system. That's it.
Yeah, its not the most fun car to drive, but I still enjoy and love the car!

Most people are scared to death of being called ricers. Hondas have lead that charge in the past, and unfortunately to the ignorant masses, that image stuck. Hondas are great cars. They do the same or more as other cars, without any fuss or theatrics, and are bulletproof.
Forget the haters.

Fanboys will be fanboys. You have an equal chance of changing his religion as switching him to a brand other than GM. There is no logic to fanboyism. Don't try to reason with it.

They're fine. That's it. I own one and I think it falls in the 2nd generation of the "we're not gonna try anymore because those dumb Americans will buy anything we make" cars. Their issue is they don't make anything truly exciting or revolutionary anymore. That used to be Honda. I walked past their spot at the Detroit Auto Show this year and they have NOTHING that pulls you in and makes you want to look at it. They make great vehicles for many people. They're handsome, reliable, feature-filled and well priced, but they don't make anything that's pushing the boundaries.
The Civic Si is seriously outclassed by everything it competes against. They killed the S2000 in 2009, and before it the NSX. From an engineering perspective, they are the last major adopters of direct injection, and likely the last to move to turbo 4's. All of their powertrain tech and chassis tech is rooted in cars from 10-15 years prior. There's no new innovation - what they used to be a leader in. They used to make family sedans that are far from sports cars, but were still involving and decent fun to drive if you pushed it. They're fading into Toyota just as Toyota is beginning to inject fun back in their products.

To piggyback on our statement regarding Toyota, that is what Honda needs to do to become a great car brand again. However, they are in the business to sell cars and do not really care what the "low percentile" of buyers want.

Yes it works for now. I suspect that in the not too distant future that lack of innovation will come back to bite them as even the most average consumer will be able to tell. Innovation with performance vehicles drives progress to the mainstream. It's why car makers go racing.
I for one am happy to see Honda returning too F1 next year. I hope the cars see the fruits of that labor within a few years.

I dont hate hondas, In fact I love them, I mainly hate people who care more about the look of their honda rather than performance and then act all douchy about it. Well this sentiment can describe many different people over many different genres of automotive enthusiasm, however there seems to be a higher concentration of these type of people (lets call them type-Rs) in the honda/acura community.

That's exactly my issue with Honda too. There is absolutely no innovation with power trains. I'm not a domestics fanboy, but I am so proud of the Big 3 for their drive train innovations, especially what they are doing with turbos. What drives me crazy is how many people blindly buy a Honda or Toyota and don't look at the competition, and as a result Honda and Toyota are becoming quite complacent. I hope this changes next generation of their cars.

properly maintained by the previous owner
That's the real key. I had a lousy Honda, but I think it was entirely the fault of the previous owner. I personally like a tastefully riced car, but honestly, I think most ricers couldn't care less about maintaining their rides, and just run them into the ground. The two cars I've purchased that were previously owned by ricers were both seriously beat, and fairly unreliable. Unfortunately, the prevalence of ricing among Honda owners means a lot of third-hand owners think that Hondas are unreliable.

I think it's more about the drivers than the cars.
When I rode a motorcycle, I wore a plain leather jacket & chaps. When I'd walk through the grocery store with them on, I'd get dirty looks from the people I'd pass by. "He's an evil person because he's a biker" sorta vibe. I overheard people saying negative things about me multiple times, and once I saw someone who looked genuinely afraid of me quickly exit the aisle I was on.
I experienced the exact same treatment when I drove a Honda. Mine was a '93 Civic hatch, dark grey, with tinted windows and smoked tail & turn lights, and a 3" exhaust (not a coffee can at the tip, an actual 3" catback); otherwise, all the other modifications were under the hood - no spoiler, no stickers, stock steel wheels. I'd get dirty looks everywhere I went. One time I was getting fuel and a woman driving a Prius pulled up next to me and muttered something about not caring about the environment just loud enough for me to hear. I thought about telling her that my car took substantially less energy to produce (without all those LiIon Batteries), and had a significantly smaller carbon footprint, since I'd bought it used, and that I got as high as 52mpg in it, but I held my tongue. Haters gonna hate, and there's nothing you can do.
There are cars I do hate — most of them made by GM and Chrysler. But any car that's simple, honest, and mechanically-minded deserves respect, even if it's not my cup of tea.

I dislike Honda now. Back in the late 90s, early 2000s I didn't. Back then I owned a Civic, Accord, Prelude and Odyssey even.
But that was Honda when it had a sense of fun. It does not have much, if any, left. Honda showrooms are some of the most boring places on earth. Acura isn't any better. Heck even Toyota stepped up with the '86 finally. Until I see something interesting and fun out of Honda, they're at the bottom of my list unfortunately.

My wife's old Accord went over 500,000km before we replaced it. It was the first of a three-car-run in our family, followed by my parent's CRV and my mother-in-law's Odyssey (which I bought from her).
They're decent, solid cars. Mostly reliable with a little bit of attention paid to routine maintenance.
My wife now rolls a Hyundai. Likely, my Odyssey and my parent's CRV will be getting replaced by Grand Caravans in the near future. We'll see how the adventure goes.
Honestly, I think the best viewpoint is to judge each model by it's own merits, regardless of the manufacturer. Everybody has something good somewhere in their lineups... ;)
